“When I was at the Eagles’ Wings School of the Heart in June, Arleen Westerhof, who pastors a church with her husband in Amsterdam, came to minister to us during our third week. She prophesied over me that I was called for leadership in churches. Everyone (including my parents) was surprised to hear this, but it reminded me that I had wanted to do this when I was very young.
However I went in a different direction for lots of reasons, some practical – like the fact that I wanted to take a different career path and I didn’t think I could juggle both – but I also didn’t think I’d be good enough and that I didn’t have the confidence to be a good leader. Arlene told me that I would have a choice but that I had a large calling on my life for ministry. Considering I’d already avoided this calling once, I didn’t think it was a good idea to give me a choice! But in the past God’s plans have worked out much better than mine.
When our Impact youth group went to Soul Survivor this summer, they were advertising their ten-month leadership course, Soul 61, based on Isaiah 61:4 “They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations”. I’d heard about the course before at other Soul Survivor events and because of a friend who had done the course, but this summer was the first time I considered doing it. I applied for the leadership stream, which is for people who feel called to leadership but aren’t sure yet what form it may take (the other streams are worship and church planting), and I was offered a place.
I’ll be moving to Watford on the 1st November to start the course on the 3rd. Two days a week will be teaching and studying God’s word. The rest of the time I’ll be on a placement. I won’t know what placement I’m on until one week into the course, but I’d like to do the pastoral placement. I might also get the chance to go on an overseas mission trip, and serve at some of the conferences around the world that Mike Pilavachi speaks at. I’m really excited about the course, and I can’t wait to get started, and for whatever it leads me into afterwards.”

I’m sure Debs will be glad of your prayer support as she takes on this exciting new challenge. There may also be opportunities to support Debs financially during her time away, with any overseas missions trips. We will let you know more about this as these opportunities arise.
