Back in January we saw an overwhelming response to the plight of millions of Iraqi refugees who were living in desperate conditions, displaced from their homes and struggling to survive in freezing conditions in the mountains. Thanks to the genorosity of many of us here at Fathers House, our friends, family and other churches in the town we were able to sort, pack and ship a staggering 253 boxes of warm winter clothes, 9 storage bags full of duvets and blankets and even 5 mattresses! It truly was remarkable.
Three months on and there are now 5.2 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Iraq, which includes 2.7 million internally displaced peoples (IDP’s) and 250,000 refugees, many of whom have fled to neighbouring countries.
We want to continue to bless our brothers and sisters in the Middle East, and so we are organising another collection to send out to Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon in a few weeks time. We will be sending;
- Summer and winter clothing, bedding and towels.
- All clothing must be IMMACULATE – clean and folded neatly please, from smoke free homes.
- We can also send sanitary towels, nappies, wet wipes and nappy sacks.
- New underwear, in packaging or with labels.
- Hand knitted blankets or baby clothes are very welcome too.
We would be very grateful for any donations that you have from the list above. But even if you don’t have any of the items at home please consider whether you could donate brand new items – I know that they will be an incredible blessing. You can bring your donations into Fathers House from now until the deadline on Monday 18th May.
Thank you for your love, compassion and generosity.
