Love God love othersIn 1997, when praying for a mission team coming to our church in Somerset, God said; ‘Whenever you are contemplating doing My work, you need My heart for My people,’

There is still so much more of His heart I need to understand! One area I struggled with was judging others, but ‘Mercy triumphs over judgement.’ (James 2 v 13b)
Other scriptures helped me;

James 3 v 5-6 – ‘Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body….consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire…’

James 3 v 9 – ‘With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in Gods likeness.’

James 3 v 17 – ‘But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.’

James 4 v 11 – ‘Brothers, do not slander one another…’ v 12 …but you, who are you to judge your neighbour?’

These scriptures, all brought me up short!

1 Corinthians 12 v 12 – ‘The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all it’s parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.’

1 Corinthians 12 v 25,26,27 – “….so that there should be no division in the body, but that it’s parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a part of it.”

Then I saw chapter 13!

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, BUT have not LOVE, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.”

1 Corinthians 13 v 4-8a, v13 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs!!!!
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails!!
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 14 v 12 – “So it is with. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church.”

I recently heard this story on T.V.

A woman called Mildred was the local gossip and ‘moral guardian’ of her church. She interfered in and exposed everyone’s private business! When a new member, George, came to the church Mildred informed everyone that his van had been parked outside the public house for many hours. So they all knew what he had been up to there! George did not say a word. A few days later George parked his van outside Mildred’s house; and left it there overnight!

Point made I think!

Also, I heard; “if you cannot say something kind, then it is much better not to say it.”
It is a very good idea, so Gordon Pettie says, “to THINK first.

Is what you are about to say True?
Is it Helpful?
Is it Inspirational?
Is it Necessary?
Is it Kind?

If it is not all these things, then do not say it!”

I am still learning and this was all helpful advice to me. Also a quotation from Billy Graham –
“It is Gods job to judge; The Holy Spirit to convict; Ours to love.”

Lord Jesus, please help us all to love you and one another with more of your amazing love. Thank you Lord. Amen

1997 – “Whenever you are contemplating My work; you need My heart for My people.”

Help us Jesus.
