AlphaGot questions about life? Have you heard of the Alpha Course?

Father’s House Shaftesbury, who open their doors to the community every Tuesday morning for their drop-in advice service, Open House, will also be opening their doors on a Monday evening to give an opportunity to all, to come and explore the basics of the Christian faith. Alpha is for anyone who is curious about God and Christianity and no question is out of bounds.

Over 20 million people, in 169 different countries have attended an Alpha Course since 1993, and one high profile attendee says this, “Alpha is a way to explore what we hunger after – meaning and intimacy and relationship…in a very non-pressed, non-judgmental environment” Bear Grylls – Adventurer

The ‘Guardian’ newspaper also suggests that “What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions; life and death and their meaning”

So, if you have questions about faith why not come along on Monday 20th February for our first session “Is there more to life than this?”. You can then join us on the next 5 weeks to explore other questions, like “Who is Jesus?” and “How can I have faith?”. We will then run part B of the Alpha course, a further 6 sessions, from 5th June – 10th July, tackling questions like “How can I make the most of the rest of my life?” and “Does God heal today?”

The Alpha team at Father’s House provides a really welcoming atmosphere for everyone, and kicks off each evening at 7pm with a 2 course meal. There’s no charge for the meal, or the course, but there is an opportunity to give a voluntary donation towards costs if you wish. After enjoying your meal and listening to a short talk you’ll then have the chance to ask any questions that you have in a small group setting.

If you have ever been curious about God or wished that you had some answers to some big questions in your life, but didn’t know who to ask, then maybe an Alpha Course is for you.

The next Alpha Course begins on Monday 20th February and runs through to Monday 27th March and then from Monday 5th June through to Monday 3rd July. If you’d like to book, or would like more information, you can contact Father’s House on 01747 854993 or email

If there is anyone that you would like to invite to Alpha there are invitations in the church foyer which you can use.
