After the success of the last 2 years the Open House community outreach project are again hosting a Christmas meal, on 15th & 16th December, for vulnerable families that have been helped this year.

We will be welcoming 200 people over 2 nights for a delicious Christmas buffet, entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas to give out gifts to all the children! The Open House team would like to say a huge thank you to all of the members of Fathers House and local families who have generously donated the gifts that will be given out.

We have also been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community through Tesco, Virginia Hayward and local churches, which will enable us to provide each family attending with a hamper of Christmas goodies to take away with them.

This is such a wonderful opportunity to bless those in our community who are struggling and who have added pressures at this time of year.

We have seen an increase in clients visiting Open House over the winter – an average of 23 clients per week seeking housing, benefits and budgeting advice or needing emergency aid. We have also given out an average of 15 food parcels, toiletries and household packs to families each week, as well as helping 36 families with benefit appeals.

Running alongside Open House we also have another project, called Storehouse. Storehouse collects good quality, second hand furniture through donations, and is then able to help families who are in need to furnish their homes. Over the last few months we have been able to provide 2-3 families per week with essential items of furniture that they would not otherwise have been able to afford. If you have any items that you would like to donate, that are in good condition, you can contact Storehouse on 07596 265662.

We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without our wonderful team of volunteers and the support of Fathers House and the local community. Thank you!
